A Nigerian court recently delayed the ruling on the bail application for Tigran Gambaryan, a detained executive from Binance, until October 9. This decision came after arguments were presented by Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi, and the prosecuting counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, who opposed the bail request. The lawyer had submitted a new bail application on September 2, citing medical reasons and the worsening health conditions of his client.

Gambaryan, an American citizen, is reported to be suffering from malaria, pneumonia, tonsillitis, and complications from a herniated disc, which have significantly affected his mobility. Due to his health conditions, his lawyer requested a six-week bail period to seek treatment for these ailments. A viral video showing Gambaryan limping into court has raised concerns and criticisms from the crypto community regarding the handling of his situation by the Nigerian government.

Various individuals, including Jeff Roberts, the crypto editor at Fortune Magazine, have condemned the Nigerian government for its actions. Roberts mentioned that Gambaryan, who is believed to be innocent, was allegedly being held hostage in an attempt to extort $10 billion from Binance. The treatment and conditions Gambaryan faced while in detention have sparked outrage and accusations of torture and humiliation.

According to reports from local media outlet Nairametrics, Gambaryan supposedly refused prescribed medications and food during his time in detention. A medical report from the State House Annex Clinic in Abuja recommended medication, physiotherapy, and urgent surgery for his back condition. However, Gambaryan expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment and insisted on being transferred to Nizamiye Hospital, leading him to intermittently reject the prescribed care and food provided to him.

The case of Tigran Gambaryan’s detention in Nigeria raises serious concerns about his health, treatment, and the legal proceedings surrounding his situation. The postponement of the bail decision, his health challenges, and the public outcry highlight the need for a fair and just resolution to this matter. The international community continues to monitor the developments in this case, calling for transparency, compassion, and respect for human rights.
